Some of our Mac users are reporting an issue with whitelisting in the AdBlock for Safari Mac app. After they delete a website from their whitelist, they notice that ads are still appearing on the site. When they check the Whitelisting tab in AdBlock's options, the site is still whitelisted.
Why doesn't the AdBlock Mac app let me remove a site from my whitelist?
First, a little background. One way to remove a site from your whitelist is to visit the whitelisted site, click the AdBlock icon in the Safari toolbar, and select Block ads on this page. The app then searches your whitelist for an entry that matches the website or domain that is currently active. If it finds a match, it deletes the entry.
Right now, that search is more like a guess. We're looking for ways to improve the way AdBlock tries to match the domain of the current page. For now, the "Block ads on this page" method described above is not the most reliable way to remove a site from your whitelist.
Workaround: Manually delete the entry
Rather than letting the app guess which whitelist entry you want to remove, you can remove it yourself like this:
- Click the AdBlock button in the MacOS menu bar and select Whitelist.
The AdBlock app window opens on the Whitelisting tab.
Alternate method: Click the AdBlock icon in the Dock or Launchpad to open the app, then click the Whitelisting tab.
- Click the trash can icon next to the site or page you want to start blocking ads on again.
Return to Safari and reload the web page to see it without ads.
