Allowlisting, Pausing, and Disabling AdBlock for Safari

Allowlisting Websites

There are two ways to access the allowlisting feature: through the Safari browser, or through the AdBlock app. Here's how:

Allowlisting a page or site in Safari

  1. Click the AdBlock icon in the Safari toolbar and select Allow ads on this page or Allow ads on this site (Gold feature).
  2. The page reloads automatically. It may take a few seconds for all the previously blocked or hidden ads to appear.

Allowlisting a page in the AdBlock app

  1. Click the AdBlock icon in the MacOS menu bar and select Manage Allowed Ads
  2. In the AdBlock app window that opens click on Manage Allowed Ads.
  3. Enter the URL in the field provided and click Add Website.

Removing a Website From Your Allowlist

Click the AdBlock icon in the Safari toolbar and select Block ads on this page. The page reloads automatically, without ads.

Pausing AdBlock for Safari

Click the AdBlock icon in the Safari toolbar and select Pause. The page reloads automatically. It may take a few seconds for all the previously blocked or hidden ads to appear.

Unpausing AdBlock for Safari

Click the AdBlock icon in the Safari toolbar and select Resume. The page reloads automatically, without ads.

Disabling AdBlock for Safari

You should never need to disable AdBlock entirely while you're browsing the web. Pausing AdBlock or adding a site to your allowlist will generally get you past "anti-adblock" blockades. But if something on a web page isn't working and pausing AdBlock doesn't help, try disabling AdBlock as a test. If the page displays as expected, please let us know. If the page doesn't display correctly with AdBlock disabled, then the issue is something other than AdBlock.

Disabling AdBlock in the AdBlock app (MacOS menu bar button)

  1. Click the AdBlock button in the MacOS menu bar and select Filter Lists.

  1. On the Filter Lists menu, select Block annoying ads. When this setting is unchecked, the EasyList filter list (which blocks and hides ads on English-language websites) is disabled and no ads are blocked.

Disabling AdBlock in the AdBlock app (app window)

  1. Click the AdBlock icon in the Dock or Launchpad to open the app, then click the Filter Lists tab.

  2. Select the Block annoying ads checkbox. When clear, the primary filters are disabled and no ads are blocked.

Disabling AdBlock in Safari Extensions preferences

From the top menu bar, go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions and select the AdBlock Engine checkbox. When clear, the AdBlock extension is disabled and no ads are blocked.
