Sometimes you might need to turn off AdBlock without removing it from your browser entirely. For instance, a news site might ask you to turn off your ad blocker to read an article. You have options other than turning off AdBlock. However, the easiest solution is just to pause it, allowing ads to show until you tell AdBlock to resume blocking them.

Note: In the instructions that follow, "the AdBlock button" is the button in your browser toolbar that looks like our logo. If you don't see the AdBlock button in your browser toolbar, it may be hidden. Here's how to show it.

Tip:
Do you use Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge? If ads aren't being blocked, look at the AdBlock button. If the stop sign is green and the hand is a thumbs-up, it means you either paused AdBlock or whitelisted the page or site. (This handy visual indication isn't available in Safari because of Apple's design requirements.)

Pause and unpause AdBlock on the current site

AdBlock for Chrome


To pause AdBlock, allowing ads to show ONLY on the site you're currently visiting until you resume ad blocking:

  • Click the AdBlock button and select Pause on this site.
    OR
  • Right-click the page and select AdBlock > Pause on this site.


AdBlock will stay paused on all pages on the site even if you open one in a new tab. Ads will still be blocked everywhere else until you unpause.


To unpause AdBlock and start blocking ads on that site again:

  • Click the AdBlock button and select Resume blocking ads.
    OR
  • Right-click the page and select Resume blocking ads.
    OR
  • Visit a different site. This tells AdBlock to start blocking ads everywhere again even if you forget to unpause it.
    OR
  • Restart your browser.


Reload the page if you want ads to show right away.

To pause AdBlock, allowing ads to show everywhere until you resume ad blocking:

Click the AdBlock button and select Pause AdBlock.

To unpause AdBlock and start blocking ads again:

AdBlock for Safari extension (version 2.69.0 and later)


To pause AdBlock, allowing ads to show everywhere until you resume ad blocking:

  • Delesect the checkbox next to AdBlock in Safari > Preferences > Extensions.


To unpause AdBlock and start blocking ads again:

  • Select the checkbox next to AdBlock in Safari > Preferences > Extensions.
    OR
  • Restart your browser.


Tip:
To quickly open Safari > Preferences, press Cmd+, (the Command and comma keys together). The Safari Preferences window opens with your last selected preference active. So after the first time you open Safari Extensions Preferences, pressing Cmd+, is a quick shortcut to pausing and unpausing AdBlock. Learn more.

To pause or resume AdBlock, click the AdBlock icon in the Safari toolbar and select Pause or Resume. Learn more.

Disable and re-enable AdBlock

Chrome

  1. Enter chrome://extensions in the address bar.
  2. Slide the toggle button to enable and disable AdBlock.


Safari extension

  1. Choose Preferences from the Safari menu and select Extensions.
  2. Select or clear the check box next to AdBlock.


Safari Mac app

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the More (...) menu and select Extensions.
  2. Point to AdBlock in the list and click the cog icon.
  3. Click On to turn AdBlock off (or click Off to turn AdBlock on).


Firefox

  1. Click the menu button and then click Add-ons.
  2. In the Add-ons Manager tab, select Extensions.
  3. Click Disable to turn AdBlock off or click Enable to turn AdBlock on.
