A site still asks me to turn off AdBlock although it's whitelisted or AdBlock is paused

If you have paused or disabled AdBlock or whitelisted the website, then one of two things is happening:

  1. Something else on your computer is causing the test to fail or not to run at all.
  2. The test the site is using to detect ad blockers is generating a false positive (less likely).

Here are some troubleshooting steps to try.

1. Clear the site's cookies and reload the page.

2. Look for an extension that is preventing JavaScript from running, hiding ads, or blocking trackers and cookies, such as NoScript, other ad blockers, Kaspersky Anti-Banner, Ghostery, PrivacyBadger, or Disconnect.

  • In Chrome or Opera, enter about:extensions in the address bar.
  • In Safari, go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions (or look in the Launchpad for an ad blocking app).
  • In Edge, click More (...) > Extensions.
  • In Firefox, enter about:addons in the address bar.

3. Make sure JavaScript is enabled in your browser.

4. Look for a setting in your browser options that is hiding ads or blocking trackers and cookies, such as Firefox's Tracking Protection, Chrome's built-in ad blocker, or Opera's built-in ad blocker. Look in the browser address bar for an icon that will let you add an exception for the site. If there isn't one, check the browser help for how to add an exception.

5. If you use Firefox, make sure you are not in a Private Browsing window.

6. Look for other things that can interfere with a site's test for ad blocking:

  • We have been told that browsers such as SeaMonkey and Torch can cause issues. Try a different browser.
  • Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) may be blocking ads for you. Call its customer service number and ask.
  • If your Internet connection is very slow, requests to download ads may time out, causing the ad test to fail.

If these suggestions don't help, there may be a problem with the test itself. In that case, all you can do is report it to the site administrators and hope for the best!
