The AdBlock menu doesn't open or contains only a donation request in Microsoft Edge

If the AdBlock menu looks like the following examples for longer than a second or two, AdBlock may have encountered an error that prevented it from loading properly.

AdBlock menu doesn't failing to open in Microsoft Edge AdBlock menu not loading properly in Microsoft Edge

What to do

First try reloading AdBlock like this:

  1. Open ... (More) > Extensions.
  2. Disable, then re-enable, AdBlock.

If that doesn't help, copy any custom filters you have created to a text file for safekeeping, then reinstall AdBlock. (See this article for a way to get to your custom filters.)

By the way, our payment page opens every time AdBlock is installed. If you don't want to pay for AdBlock at this time, just close the page.

That didn't help. Now what?

If AdBlock still doesn't load properly after reinstalling it—or if the menu looks right, but AdBlock's options page is blank—the most likely culprit is a bug in Microsoft Edge. Reset or repair Edge, then reinstall AdBlock and any other extensions you had.

Warning: Resetting Microsoft Edge will completely erase your bookmarks, saved passwords, extensions, and settings on your computer.

Resetting Microsoft Edge didn't help: Two alternate solutions

Resetting Edge almost always fixes this issue. If it doesn't, try one of the following solutions, suggested by our users. (Thanks, Thomas and Belliott5!)

Note: These are not for the faint of heart or technically challenged. And again, be sure to back up your favorites before you proceed.

Method 1:

  1. Clear all the browsing data in Edge.
  2. Delete everything in the following directory:
    C:\Users\%your_username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe
  3. Run the Windows PowerShell as Administrator and enter the following command:
  4. Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}
  5. Reinstall AdBlock from the Windows Store.

Method 2:

  1. Remove Edge using the following PowerShell command: get-appxpackage -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Remove-AppxPackage
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Reinstall Edge using the following PowerShell command: Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
