Blocking annoying things on Facebook (that aren't ads)

You can use AdBlock for more than just blocking ads. The best way to block annoying things on Facebook is to make use of the AdBlock filter lists. You can find out more about filter lists and how to use them here. You can also use AdBlock's manual blocking wizard to remove ads manually.

In order to block more annoying things on Facebook, your best bet is to enable the Fanboy's Annoyances filter list. You can also block things manually on Facebook in order to create your own custom filter lists, but bear in mind that doing so can break pages if you're not careful.

About Fanboy's Annoyances

Note:  If you subscribe to Fanboy's Annoyances, you don’t need to subscribe to the Antisocial filter list.
