Show the AdBlock button

If you can't see the AdBlock button in the extensions bar, first make sure that AdBlock is installed. If it is, the button is just hidden.

Chrome (older versions)

  1. Type chrome://extensions in the address bar.
  2. Next to AdBlock in the extensions list, click Show Button. (If you don't see this, you have a newer version of Chrome. Keep reading.)

Chrome (newer versions)

  1. Click the Chrome menu (the three stacked bars or dots in the upper right corner of the window).
  2. Right-click the AdBlock button and select Show in toolbar.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the More menu (...) and select Extensions.
  2. Point to AdBlock in the list of extensions and click the gear icon that appears.
  3. Under Show button next to the address bar, click Off to toggle the setting to On.

Safari

  1. In the menu bar, click View and select Customize Toolbar.
  2. Drag the AdBlock button to the toolbar.

Opera

  1. Type opera://extensions in the address bar.
  2. Under AdBlock in the extensions list, untick Hide from toolbar.

Is the address bar hiding the button?

If you've followed the steps above and the button still doesn't appear, the address bar itself is probably hiding it. Put your cursor on the right-hand side of the address bar and drag to the left to make the box shorter. The buttons for all of your enabled extensions will appear one by one as the address bar makes room.

Hide the AdBlock button

On the other hand, maybe you like to keep your browser window tidy and free of visual distractions by hiding extension buttons. You can hide the AdBlock button and AdBlock will continue to run just fine.

Note: If you hide the AdBlock button in Safari or Opera, you won't be able to take advantage of the handy features available on the AdBlock menu. These include whitelisting YouTube channels, individual pages, and entire sites; pausing AdBlock; showing the list of blocked and hidden resources; and opening AdBlock's settings. In MIcrosoft Edge and newer versions of Chrome, you can easily get to the AdBlock button on the browser menu.

Chrome

  • Right-click the AdBlock button in the toolbar and select Hide Button or Hide in Chrome menu, depending on which version of Chrome you have.

    Note:
Left-clicking the AdBlock button and selecting Hide this button does not hide the button; it only reveals instructions for hiding the button. This seems counter-intuitive, we know. It's a workaround imposed by the fact that Chrome doesn't let extensions modify the Chrome user interface. In other words, we can't hide the AdBlock button for you; all we can do is tell you how to hide it.

Another note: If you're using a Chromebook, you'll need to do a two-finger tap to right-click the AdBlock button.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the More menu (...) and select Extensions.
  2. Point to AdBlock in the list of extensions and click the gear icon that appears.
  3. Under Show button next to the address bar, click On to toggle the setting to Off.

Safari

  1. In the menu bar, click View and select Customize Toolbar.
  2. Drag the AdBlock button off the toolbar.

Opera

  1. Type opera://extensions in the address bar.
  2. Under AdBlock in the extensions list, select Hide from toolbar.
